Other Things I Did on Spring Break: the Wild Animal Sanctuary

March 26th, 2008 (02:30 pm)
Listening to:: Dan Reeder - Havana Burning

One windy morning once most of the snow from the first days of break had melted, I grabbed some good company and headed a short ways southeast to The Wild Animal Sanctuary. If any of you have seen Animal Planet's "Growing Up Black Leopard" you've seen the sanctuary, and yes, it really is that cool.

If you're in Northern Colorado, drop by. You could say I sent you, but you'd just confuse them. For those who are not in Colorado (and why not?), I took pictures! Unfortunately for anyone with a taste for variety, it appears that when I am surrounded by lions and tigers and bears (andleopardsandpumasandservals) oh my!... I only take pictures of Tigers.

What? I like tigers!

In other news, I've been on a serious new music kick lately. How do you find new music? I have three methods: a) asking friends what they love, in just those words b) leaving Pandora.com running in the background whenever I can and c) browsing allmusic.com, which is like IMDB for music.

Here. Have a song.

Music Geek

Hello! I happened to stumble across your journal; your mention of All Music was picked up by my Google alerts. I just started working for the site in October, and it's always gratifying to see that our hard work is enjoyed.

(I also have to admit that every time I see the Pink Spiders, I get miffed because I can't help but wonder if they stole their name from my favorite Japanese rock song by my favorite Japanese rock artist. Probably not the case, but I'm geek enough to think it possible.)

I know a few musicians who derive their names from the bands that have influenced them, but I'd call it a tribute (and free publicity) as versus theft. In the least, it gets people like you showing people like me new music, no? :)

Working at allmusic.com would be interesting- what do you do there?

Thanks for dropping by!

That's a much better way of looking at it, actually. I'll have to keep that one in mind!

As far as what I do, it's a little bit of everything - helping to keep our database up to date, writing reviews and biographies, and posting stuff on our blog.

Actually, I did an entry last night about some of that last. You can check that out here, if you want.

Tigers

Aren't tigers big? I saw one once closeup (she was lying on the other side of a plexiglass window) at Wellington Zoo in New Zealand. Her paws were the size of dinner plates and her head would've been bigger than I could span with my arms. No wonder that can take down the animals they can (including us!).
Thanks for dropping by my contest - alas you didn't win!

Re: Tigers
Art Noveau

The largest tiger at this particular Colorado refuge tops 850 lbs/386 kg. They're such amazing animals.
